Wamira lass proud to don the red, black and gold jersey again

Her name doesn't sound Papua New Guinea, but for 24 year old Meiling Choong, is proud to representing her birth country as she prepares for the Asia-Pacific 7s Championships in Shanghai, China.

Choong’s father is Malaysian and her mother is from Wamira village in Milne Bay and the lass who currently lives in Shenzhen city is eager to don the red, black and gold jersey. However, this is not her first time to become a sporting ambassador for PNG.

Her debut was in 2010 Hong Kong 7s and she has been a member of the Palais since.

Choong was into soccer before joining a women’s rugby union club called the Royal Selangor in Malaysia. She says her athletic side was developed here in the country where she grew up.
